I just open carried to a party for the first time. A party where I didn't know if the hosts owned guns. I had never seen anyone do this before.

There were no negative reactions. I got several compliments. The only questions I got were what kind of gun it was.

The effect of seeing someone wearing a gun and being well behaved - not being turned into a homicidal maniac - is great. Do it.

Be on your best behaviour. Don't drink, etc.. Don't touch, or let anyone else touch, the gun. Crowds are not the place for such things. Be very aware of weapon retention. Be discrete about it - showing off is not best behaviour.

This was in New Hampshire. If it doesn't work like this where you live, come join us.

Can't wait for my cocobolo smooth grips.

"Permits in this parallel system are not public records. They may be issued from other states. The permits themselves are *fantastic* because they let the holder possess and carry guns in all 50 states and in DC (state-issued permits are much more restricted). They also let the permit holder disregard a lot of state gun laws (things like magazine limitations, assault weapons bans, etc, which are present in California, NY and a few other states). Also, permits within this parallel system are available at lower status / dollar thresholds than within the official systems in places like NYC. In short, this parallel, stealth system is the smart way to go, with numerous advantages."

Interesting read, and I'd wager we could push some worthwhile comments into the discussion.

Anyone know an activist sheriff?

*EDIT*
I don't know if any of this is true, but I definitely found it interesting, as it was an angle I'd never heard of before. And I figured, you folks might be able to shed some light on the whole thing as well. ;]

I'm going to end up carrying one of these, and I have little experience with them aside from the basics. Is there anything I should be wary of? Long term issues? Something about them in terms of cleaning/stripping/servicing that isn't readily apparent from the documentation or common sense? I dug through the Sig Forum last night, but it was less than useful for what I wanted to know, and high in terms of noise to signal.

Any advice would be appreciated. :)

A fairly well-balanced article on the nationwide trend of extended gun rights.

I never really thought I'd see the day.

The general kit worked on the shotgun and a google search provided some insight but not to the history of this used "American Premier" 200AT which lists itself as a Mossberg and pictures engraved of phesants on it. Some sight took us over to 'pre 1900' which doesn't seem possible by looking at this wooden beast, maybe 70's, probably around 1980's.

Any knowledge of who bought whom?

incidentally we found the 'road blocker' on the mossberg site which looked VERY fun....

FYI - the store where the Galesi is HAS AMMO - stocked and for sale. they will sell by the box but not by the pallet. here's the promo as i was very impressed having been to several around town here in Vegas/Henderson:

Yours truly finally played w/ her 12 gage, pump action, single barrel shotgun over Thanksgiving (goes well w/ Turkey and football ;-) and needs to clean it. I have an 'everything' cleaning kit but wonder if there are forums I should be looking in to particularly work on the trigger and other areas. It was a used purchase, I ran target through it and then a few REAL home self-defense shots - WHOA MOMMA what a power difference! So, anybody have any links/forums they care to share for gun care?

Second, the gun shop down the street is actually well stocked w/ smaller used firearms. one in particular that caught my eye (and would fit well in purse, padded bra depending on what i'm wearing) is the Galesi 25 ACP which was made in Italy from the 1930-50's. It is good looking (including faux ivory handle) but not too damn small that it wouldn't hurt a fly unless i'm right up against someone who is trying to harm me still being able to pull the trigger. Does anybody have any experience with this gun, thoughts etc.? It's also in my price range under $200. But then again like I 'need' another gun... I understand how a collection builds, tattoo afficionados don't have just 'one' tattoo and other trite comparisons.

Thoughts appreciated, particularly from ladies on the 2nd one for ease of carry from purse to on-person.

Sigh.

http://tinyurl.com/cldcfz leads to Fiocchi's Extrema .45 ACP. This round uses a very low flash powder & a Hornaday XTP bullet. It shoots great from both my Para Warthog & Taurus 1911 LWT. I've done a wound channel dissection after shooting our Xmas dinner, a live hog (350#). This is as least as good Speer Gold Dot performance & better IMO than Remington's Golden Saber. 50 rounds for 30$ USD not to bad and buy 500 or so it gets cheaper . Haven't reloaded the cases but the to my eye look like Starline in QC.

I'd expect the BATF gestapo to be smashing down his front door with a no-knock warrant just about any time now for building a fully automatic weapon without proper NFA registration. That would sound more like a joke if it weren't for cases like the Akins Accelerator where the BATF initially approves a device by Technical Branch acceptance letter, and then completely backtracks on the decision, destroying the livelihood of the inventor in the process (Oh, did you hear that Akins' appeal was denied earlier this year?). If I made something like this, I sure as hell wouldn't plaster videos of it on the internet, regardless of how obvious it is that it isn't a firearm (and not really all that deadly).

Impressive homemade engineering, in any case:

So I'm walking into my local Buffalo Wild Wings when I see this on the door.

I've been in a few BWW before and never saw one of these signs, so after I was done eating (and of course carried inside anyway because this is in no way legal signage in Texas) I decided to talk to a manager.

I lucked out and happened across not one, but two managers standing together. One had a tag that said "General Manager", and the other's had an extra word on his tag making it read (I'm pretty certain on this but part of the tag was obscured) "Regional General Manager". I asked about the sign and was told by the GM it was a BWW corporate policy and all their restaurants have the same sign. I pointed out that I had been in several that did not, then the RGM said all corporate stores are marked, if I had been in a franchise store they were not required to post the sign so that's probably what happened.

The GM got extremely defensive and said the policy was for the safety of the patrons. I pointed out that the only people that would even come close to following the policy were the law abiding ones, then told him it wasn't a legal sign for Texas CHL holders anyway and they could carry inside with impunity, and ended with asking him if he realized that if someone was going to enter their restaurant with the intent of harming someone, a simple sign wouldn't stop them. I then touched on the background checks that CHL holders have to go through to which he replied "That still won't stop someone from getting mad, pulling a gun, and shooting someone." At this point he got totally flustered and stomped off leaving me with the RGM.

Now the RGM was a completely different matter. Once the GM fled, he was calm and said that he was aware of the background checks and knew that CHL holders were the least likely to ever cause a problem. He also said that I wasn't the first person to discuss this with him recently, I was at least the fourth person to do so. He said unfortunately he couldn't change the policy offhand since it was direct from corporate but he would make sure to bring it up at the next board meeting. Now I don't know if this will ever happen, but at least he didn't get defensive and storm off.

Needless to say, the food wasn't anywhere near good enough to go back and deal with their corporate mentality.
